Advance Technology Center at Gulf Coast State College
Panama City, FL
Department: Education
A groundbreaking celebration for Gulf Coast Community College’s Advanced Technology Center was held June 24, 2010. College officials, trustees, planners from Florida Architects, and other guests ceremonially broke ground for the new $35 million facility, designed from the ground up to expand and grow high-tech learning opportunities. GAC / H. J. High will serve as the Construction Manager for this exciting new project. Programs that will be housed in the ATC include Sustainable Building Construction, the Entrepreneur’s Institute/Development Business Lab, the Emerging Technologies Laboratory, and an Information Technology/Computer Sciences center, just to name a few. A key goal is the integration of the curriculum with high schools to provide students with both career and educational pathways based on college credit and employer requirements. College and community focus groups, as well as site visitors from the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers, made recommendations based on assessments of current workforce and economic development operations relative to degree programs, organizational structure, funding, and the most effective use of the planned “green” and LEED gold certified ATC facility.

Bay Haven Charter Academy
Panama City, FL
Department: Education
GAC Contractors served as the Construction Manager for the JRA designed Bay Haven Charter Academy. Unfortunately, wetland permitting delayed the commencement of construction on five (5) of the six (6) proposed buildings. Upon the issue of the long awaited wetlands permits, GAC accelerated the schedule and implemented other strategies to open the school six (6) months ahead of the contracted completion date. Based on the strength of the Team’s efforts, GAC Contractors, JRA Architects and Bay Haven Charter Academy were the awarded the “Best Of 2005 Award” for the best K-12 Public School Project in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This annual awards program sponsored by McGraw-Hill’s Southeast Construction magazine is judged by a panel of industry professionals. Based on the success of the original project, GAC was hired by the Bay Haven Board as the Construction Manager for three (3) additional phases of construction. Project Quotations “It is with the highest degree of respect and admiration for a first class organization that I recommend GAC Contractors for any project”. - Dr. Tim Kitts, Bay Haven Charter Academy Principal “GAC has been the best partner we could hope for”. - Todd Thompson, Bay Haven Charter Academy Board Member
